WHO & WHAT IS "BONNTAUB"?

BONNTAUB – Pronounced “Bahn-Thou” Bahn as in Bahn mi, and Thou as in Thou shall not eat the last egg roll! It’s a mashup of our names “Bonnie = Bon” and “Tao = Ntaub” in Hmong.

Hmong. Our parents are an indigenous people from the mountainous regions of Laos. They immigrated to the United States in the early 1980’s. Tao is the oldest of 10 while Bonnie the youngest of 6, our polar opposite upbringing allows us to understand the other’s family dynamic the best.

We met through a mutual relative in the Summer of 2015. I, Bonnie, lived in Ohio my entire life but would frequently visit Wisconsin for my mom’s family events. During one of these visits, the stars aligned and put us in front of each other. Six months after meeting and traveling every 2-3 weeks, we decided that we never wanted to date anyone else ever again and got engaged. After only 9 months of knowing each other, we tied the knot and started this journey called life & marriage.

Currently, we are located in Columbus, Ohio and recently purchased our first home together. We value family above everything else in the world but for the time being we do live apart from them. In our free time, we love to travel, see the world & collect shot glasses! Bonnie’s an uber plant mom, she loves gardening and feeling the lush green leaves at her fingertips. While Tao enjoys the outdoors such as hiking, fishing (although Bonnie does outfish him) and taking his gadgets to document our adventures.

Tao always loved photography and videography so for our first Christmas together, Bonnie got him the latest GoPro. We have both always loved cooking and ate most of our meals at home. Bonntaub was started from Bonnie’s love of cooking for him and the happiness and joy in his face when he eats the food. He gets a great reaction out of people due to his nature of being silly and not caring what others think of it. He also has the kindest face allowing him to connect so well with strangers.

Bonnie loved creativity but was always told it was not a realistic career so she decided to become a mechanical engineer. Bonnie worked as an engineer for 8 years in the aerospace, agriculture, medical device and automotive industries. As she approached her 8th year of work as an engineer, the loss of her uncle weighed heavily on her shoulders. She decided to close that chapter of her life and pursue other avenues for her well being and happiness. Not knowing how much time she has left with her own father (a diabetic and kidney transplant patient), she knew she had to complete a Master’s program while she still has the chance to make him proud. So she returned to school (and finished in May 2020 with her MBA) and started to pursue the passion of food and creativity. She does 100% of the editing, photography & communication.

From this partnership of creativity, love for food & addiction to traveling; we now combine all of our passions into this! Our goal is to show the world how easy it is to cook at home with basic ingredients & showcasing the most delicious food in the cities we travel.

Thanks for joining us on our journey!
